Our League is excited to be a co-sponsor of the MTSU Constitution Day event “Grassroots Organizing is in Tennessee’s DNA: Highlander Comes to MTSU” on Monday, September 19, at 3:00 PM at MTSU’s Tucker Theatre.
Rev. Allyn Maxfield-Steele, a co-executive director of the Highlander Center, will be our main speaker and workshop leader. He will lead not from the stage but in the audience, guiding and working directly with students and audience members in a workshop format.
Founded in 1932 in Monteagle, TN, the Highlander Center is a catalyst for grassroots organizaing and movement building in Appalachia and the South, with a focus on helping communities work for justice, equality, and sustainability.
There will be a free parking area near the baseball field—see map in poster below.
Additional campus parking is indicated on the map at https://bit.ly/MTSUParking. Visitors can obtain a parking permit online at mtsu.edu/parking/visit.php, park in the university’s Rutherford Boulevard Lot, and ride the Raider Xpress shuttle to their events’ locations.
