Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy
Serving local citizens since 1957
In Murfreesboro and Rutherford County, the League of Women Voters has been helping citizens engage in local, state of Tennessee, and national government since 1957.
The League encourages informed and active participation in government. We study and take positions on issues, but we never support or oppose any candidate, party or political appointee. We have a strong commitment to voter education, action and advocacy for public policy.
To the wrongs that need resistance,
To the right that needs assistance,
To the future in the distance,
Give yourselves.

“Every human has the potential to give. The urge to do this is built deep inside each of us, and can be stirred just by our being open to the needs of others. When we share our time, our money, or our creativity, those acts can spark responses in kind. So, once it gets started, generosity can spread like wildfire.”
― Chris J. Anderson, Infectious Generosity
Join the League
This copy of “Know Your Local Government,” published by our League in 1960, was found in 2019 in a downtown Murfreesboro home under restoration.
Membership in the League is open to women and men of all ages. When you join a local League, you automatically become a state and national League member as well.
Our League provides complimentary student memberships for students 18 and older.
Your membership builds on a legacy that informed and active women started here in Murfreesboro over 60 years ago.
